Sayla (Somali Commentator) At least one Somaliland coastguard has been shot dead and another one was critically injured in an attack in Somaliland coastline near Sayla town after fresh clashes between Somaliland and Djibouti erupted. This happened after Djibouti navy attempted to intercept two legal ships having the legal documents for travelling Somaliland coastlines. Somaliland coastguards were keeping an eye on the ship while some Somaliland coastguards were on the crew to keep the security of the two ships. Nevertheless, five speed Djiboutian boats under the guise of sea patrol tried to forcefully seize the two ships.
The Djiboutian navy were said to have aimed at seizing the ship and bringing to Djibouti. After the attack, a Somaliland coastguard namely Deeg Ali Osman shot dead. The Late Deeq, hailing from Awdal region, has been one of the most exuberant and rigorous coastguards in Somaliland. Sources confirmed to Somali Commentator that the Djibouti navy managed to seize and get away with one ship and one coastguard.
On the other hand, the commander of Somaliland Naval Army in Sayla Admiral Mohamed Yusuf Otor ran after the raiders and swiftly reached at the scene. Mr Otor along with his navy team opened fire to the speed boats but the boats managed to escape.
Somaliland Coastguards from Berbera are now patrolling and flocking towards Sayla to tackle the situation . So far neither the government of Somaliland has spoken about the matter; and so Djibouti.
